2027 Turkey income tax: which numbers are real?

The reported 2026 annual revaluation indicator based on October Yİ-ÜFE is 27.83%. It is a reference for many 2027 tax thresholds, not a legally effective income-tax schedule as of 3 November 2026. The relevant Income Tax Law revaluation and statutory rounding rules, official promulgation and subsequent decisions still matter. This matters to expatriates working for global employers and independent professionals because two forms of income may have distinct third bracket ceilings.

Start with the full 2027 revaluation guide and use the interactive 2027 scenario calculator for transparent projections.

Official 2026 salary and non-salary income-tax tariffs

Marginal rate 2026 non-salary upper threshold 2026 salary upper threshold
15% TRY 190,000 TRY 190,000
20% TRY 400,000 TRY 400,000
27% TRY 1,000,000 TRY 1,500,000
35% TRY 5,300,000 TRY 5,300,000
40% Above TRY 5,300,000 Above TRY 5,300,000

These are actual 2026 brackets specified by the Revenue Administration (332 Series Income Tax General Communiqué). They apply marginally, so a 27% band does not mean every lira is taxed at 27%. The right schedule depends on the classification of each item of income.

Unrounded 2027 planning scenario only

Rate Non-salary illustrative boundary Salary illustrative boundary
15% TRY 242,877 TRY 242,877
20% TRY 511,320 TRY 511,320
27% TRY 1,278,300 TRY 1,917,450
35% TRY 6,774,990 TRY 6,774,990

Important: every 2027 number above is just 2026 × 1.2783 before legal rounding. No amount should be reported as an official 2027 bracket. If 2027 tariffs change under the law or by executive adjustment, the legal numbers replace this model.

How taxable income and marginal tax work

Determine gross taxable income according to its legal category, determine applicable expenses, exemptions and deductions, and then apply the annual marginal tariff to the remaining base. Do not confuse business turnover, payroll gross salary and taxable annual income. For TRY 750,000 of taxable non-salary income, the 2026 band-only tax is TRY 165,000: 190,000 × 15% + 210,000 × 20% + 350,000 × 27%. A non-binding unrounded 2027 scenario on the identical income gives TRY 154,563.75. These exclude withholding, treaty treatment and taxpayer-specific credits.

Specific points for foreign residents

Whether income is employment income, independent professional income, rental income or investment income must be determined before picking a rate schedule. Residence rules and relevant double-tax treaties may also matter. An employee who remains on a foreign payroll does not automatically avoid a Turkish filing or withholding issue; similarly an independent contractor cannot automatically claim a service-export incentive. Employers with Turkish staff should review permanent establishment, payroll, social security and employment obligations separately.

FAQ

Is 27.83% a personal income tax rate?

No. It is the initially reported annual revaluation index used as a reference for adjusting various statutory monetary amounts.

Can I use the estimated 2027 bracket for a tax return?

No. Use the official 2027 tariff applicable to the year and income type once promulgated.

What is the difference between a freelancer and a salaried employee?

Not just the withholding method: the 2026 27% bracket ceiling differs, and deductible items and compliance obligations differ.
